Business Continuity Planning Training Programme

Business Continuity Planning Training · Tonga

Supported by the Government of Australia

By Faith Consultancy's Tevita Vahai served as a co-facilitator in the delivery of a Business Continuity Planning training programme bringing together a diverse cross-section of Tonga's organisations — including banks, public enterprises, NGOs, government representatives, and small businesses — all working together to strengthen institutional resilience across the Kingdom.

Participants engaged in hands-on sessions where they actively drafted their own Business Continuity Plans, set organisational priorities, assigned responsibilities, and tested real disruption scenarios. The programme covered three critical focus areas: climate and disaster preparedness, technology, cybersecurity and backup planning, and financial resilience and continuity.

The broad participation across sectors made this an especially valuable initiative — reflecting a shared commitment to ensuring organisations across Tonga can continue serving their communities even when disruptions hit.

UNODC Anti-Corruption Panel and Integrity Workshop

United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)

By Faith Consultancy's Tevita Vahai participated as a panelist in UNODC side events on Anti-Corruption and a workshop on Integrity and Anti-Corruption Awareness, sharing firsthand experience in anti-corruption advocacy in Tonga alongside other young champions from across the Pacific.

Tevita was a co-founder of Gosh Cry Tonga in 2015, an initiative that lobbied for the ratification of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and the establishment of Tonga's Anti-Corruption Commissioner's Office. As of 2024, both goals have been achieved, marking a significant milestone in Tonga's governance journey.

The panel provided an opportunity to reflect on the progress made, share lessons learned from grassroots advocacy, and contribute to ongoing regional discussions on strengthening integrity and accountability frameworks across the Pacific.

Financial Literacy Training — Empowering Women in Handicraft Production

Delivered for Langa Fonua 'a Fafine Tonga · Connected with the Commonwealth of Learning

By Faith Consultancy's Tevita Vahai was invited as a Financial Literacy Facilitator for Langa Fonua 'a Fafine Tonga's Empowering Women in Handicraft Production for Economic Empowerment and Cultural Preservation programme. The session focused specifically on budgeting and business management for women operating small handicraft businesses.

During the session, participants drew up simple budgets for their businesses, many for the first time. For most, it was the first occasion they had seen their income and expenses recorded on paper rather than relying on memory. Some were surprised to see how much they collected in a month, while others discovered they had been spending more than they earned without realising it.

The training highlighted a clear need for more time and resources dedicated to developing financial literacy among small and medium enterprises, which are a driving force of Tonga's economy. Notably, this was the first time the training was delivered entirely in Tongan, including all presentation slides and materials, making the content more accessible and directly relevant to participants.
